ABOUT US

Hello and welcome to Ouachita Rowing Club. Ouachita Rowing was founded to provide Ouachita students with an opportunity to get involved in one of the oldest sports in the country. Along with athletic training where we run, lift, and practicing rowing techniques, we also are planning regattas and social events on campus. Our team is new and growing, and welcoming new members no matter the experience.

Rowing, in itself, has been around as long as humans have traveled the earth. The first modern rowing competitions can be traced to England during the renaissance where sponsored boats raced as early as the mid 15th century. The oldest race in the world is the “Doggett’s Coat and Badge” held between the London Bridge and Chelsea Harbor in London.

Rowing made it to the United States in the 1700’s and in 1852, Yale challenged Harvard to the first intercollegiate boat race in the United States. Now, rowing is a NCAA recognized sport that has exploded all over the country.

Ouachita is the first collegiate rowing team in Arkansas. We are young, but ready to prove ourselves. To contact us, you can email us at oburowing@obu.edu. Please continue to navigate through our site and see the many things that Ouachita Rowing is doing.
